Hello friends, first I want to share a bit of my heart, a deeper part. As you have probably already gathered, I am pretty transparent about my story and my struggles. I feel like when we can be human with one another, we heal each other. We either lend courage to others or we come to receive some. I have been on both sides of that fence. I strongly believe that when we have the courage to be who we are with all ‘the stuff’, the world opens up. We meet people in the most unique ways. We touch people we have never met. There is such power in this. A beautiful and sacred power.
I keep many things near my heart and they are the parts of my story that are not made for the public. However, the struggles, the growth, the humanity of living in this broken world need a witness. We need to not feel alone. So, we broach the heart places of recovering from things we didn’t ask for & the reckoning of the past, along with its impact on the present. We can do this together.
Childhood can be a minefield for some. It was for me. I know it was for others who I care deeply for. We wrestle with the ghosts. We cry the tears. We endure sleepless nights. We push through the badlands of memory to a point of healing and resolution. We are courageous. YOU are courageous. My story left me so much to sort and heal from. For the most part, the really hard part is over. However, I am learning that there is more to reclaim. With the memories put to rest, I now set about to take back every little and big thing. Holidays are one of those things.
I set out this year to begin that reclaiming. and re-framing the seasons from the past and making them beautiful as they were intended. When I created this journal spread, I was so totally filled with joy, deep joy inside. My senses have become alive again. I see the colors. I feel the crisp air on my cheeks. I savor the cup of tea, knowing that all is safe and sound. It is truly well with my soul. So, “Hello Fall”.
My friends, it can be so hard to sort through our stories. Sometimes, it is unimaginable that things can be good again. Seasons have so much power as they represent milestones and landmarks, similar to birthdays and loved ones passing. Sometimes, it is hard to breathe. The heart longs for what the heart longs for. Memories are both treasured and endured.
I pray that in this moment, you can take a deep breath with me and inhale the fresh air of the season. That you can find a place in your heart for new things. I used to think that if I got better, if I healed and became happy, I would be dishonoring those I have lost. That I would be pretending that the pain and loss didn’t happen. However, I have learned quite the opposite.
We can hold grief and joy at the same time.
We can hold on to the memories tucked deep in our hearts AND, we can reach for what is new and what is different.
We can honor ourselves by trying something new.
We can be grateful for what is without negating what was.
My friends, I hope that you know just how loved you are. That you can embrace the goodness that is around you. These are hard times, indeed, but there are so many good things.
