Hello friends,
Welcome to Sundays’ ART of Truth. Today I am working in a large Dylusions Mixed Media journal. My word for 2025 is EXPLORATION and this project helped me live that! I had so much fun creating this spread. The quote I used says, “the unknown isn’t always comfortable, but it is where the magic happens”.
I love how much we can learn and enjoy when we learn and grow when we step out of our comfort zone. I don’t know if I have ever done a mixed media project without using texture paste, but I did! I knew I wanted to use this beautiful butterfly, so all the paint choices were around that image. When I think of butterflies, I think of their strength, resilience, and transformation. The butterfly takes a huge risk to come out of the cocoon, sometimes, life threatening. The truth is that if the butterfly didn’t risk that journey, they would never become a butterfly, in all its fragile beauty.
I love that picture for my life. In so many ways, I live on repeat. I like routine. I like knowing what’s coming. I enjoy doing the same thing over and over again. I have the same routines in my days. Even, in my art, I am predictable. While there is nothing wrong with that, but I want more. I want to learn new things. I want to take chances and grow. I want to fail. I want to have fun in the failing.
When I think of exploration, it crosses over into so many areas of our lives. Exploration of beliefs, feelings, fears etc. I love the idea of living with abandon. I am not there yet, but I am working on it. I have been a perfectionist/performer/producer my whole life. Letting go of control and exploring the unknown is a big deal for me.
My friends, I believe the power is within us to accomplish so much. However, it takes courage to risk. It takes perseverance to continue in something that we are unsure of.
Where is it going to take us?
What will people think if we mess up?
Will they still love us?
Will we fail?
Will we lose something we value?
Perhaps, all of those things are true. Maybe we lose fear by casting away the things that stop us from exploring. But…maybe we find joy in the exploring.
