Hello friends, welcome to Sunday’s ART of Truth.
Today, I am creating my first page in my 2023 Art Journal. While, I have aspired to do this each year, I have not been successful. As many of you have experienced, the last few years have been quite difficult on many fronts. While we cannot change the circumstances around us, we can affect the way we process those things. I tend to move through my life, ticking things off my lists and accomplishing a great deal. While that has been substantive for a long time, it does not always bring the fulfillment and deep soul nourishment that is so needed.
So, I have decided to take some time this year to slow down. To put goals in front of me that feed my soul and, in turn, inspire others. A slower and more reflective space is necessary.
My desire is to be present more. I want to read more. I want to spend less time on social media. I most definitely want to spend less time griping and more time smiling. I want my heart full of gratitude, glass half full kind of stuff. I want to pare down my perceived expectations and embrace my own limitations.
As I move into creativity in 2023, I have chosen the word ‘Curiosity’. I will likely pop back and forth between curiosity and adventure. I want to grow in my art. I want to take risks and try new things. I want to be curious about things that I have never tried before.
This first journal spread was such a joy to make. My approach was quite different. The end result was simply satisfying. I tend to go dark and rich. I use bold and thick paint and a lot of grunginess. Perhaps this is a reflection of a soul place for me that I would like to explore a bit more. The grunge is beautiful, and it speaks to me deeply but there is more to explore. However, there is something to be observed in softer passages of color that bring peace and calm.
These pages are called, Soulful Creativity.
That about sums up where my heart and soul want to go. I want to explore light and life, soft and muted colors. I want to feel what it is like to sit with no answers, and no direction, checking in with my heart and intuition. I want to avoid haste and preconceived pictures in my head.
Art journaling creates this amazing universe where we get to play. We get to be messy and, even feel a little loss. We get to embrace imperfection and a change of plans.
Life is safe when we fight for control, isn’t it? When we determine our steps to control outcomes. Once, I said that I experience controlled vulnerability and transparency. That is a bit of an oxymoron, isn’t it? To be truly vulnerable and transparent, I think we must learn to let go of absolute control. When we are busy producing, often the heart and soul are left out in the cold. I think they are begging to be a part of the journey, but they are unpredictable, risky, and scary.
In 2023, I want to experience growth, peace, acceptance, gratitude, and meandering. Did you know that we can meander through relatively mundane tasks? We can find joy in losing power. We can find nourishment in sitting with a cup of tea. We can nestle in with peace by creating spaces around us that cause us to feel safe and comforted. Oh, the wonders of getting lost on the pages of a book. You know, the kind with pages and paper?
My friends, I hope that you will join me here as I move through this art journaling process.
I pray that you are able to find a reflective space where you can discover what feeds you.
What brings you joy?
What calms your heart?
What brings you rest?
I hope that you find it. It is also my hope that if you choose to travel here with me, you will find your own questions and the answers that suit your heart and soul.
Be beautiful, be blessed,
Beloved-Reborn
