This was a page I did in my art journal. It was a very fun and intuitive process. I didn’t have any plan when I started. I love Shawn’s Mediterranean stencil. I used vintage book and music pages I picked up from a yard sale as well as scraps of rice paper from my stash. Creative intuition began flowing when I picked the vintage lady out of my scraps. The message of the page quickly erupted from my heart. To share art and to teach art is my passion and yet I struggle with value and worthiness. Once I learned I was invited to be part of the Shawn Petite’s Creative Team, all my worse fears erupted. This page brought calm and promise to my heart. I love when art does that! “Learning to fly…She dreamed beautiful dreams…She could believe!” Yes, my hope for everyone. Don’t stop dreaming, you never know what is around the corner. Products used: Dylusions Creative Journal. Raw Umber & Paynes Gray fluid acrylics from Golden. Shawn Petite stencils, Mediterranean 1 & Mediterranean Duo. Vintage music and book pages. Scraps of rice paper from my stash. Golden Heavy Body acrylic in Magenta & Titanium White. Liquitex Matte Medium.

This was a page I did in my art journal. I am calling this my freedom piece. I was struggling big time to figure out what my creative funk was about in late September. I kept creating and creating only to be disappointed. I finally was able to connect to my heart again and realized that I had sacrificed my style in trying to create as a ‘performance’ rather than out of heart inspiration. A dear friend sent me a bunch of paper and I saw the 2 papers and immediately everything came together! It was like coming home and it felt good. We must be true to ourselves. Honor our hearts and our authentic selves. I know that is the way I want to live. There is so much freedom there. The piece was fairly effortless and a true joy to create. I love using Shawn’s stencils. They are now in almost everything I make. Products used: Dylusions Creative Journal. Burnt Umber Light & Paynes Gray fluid acrylics from Golden. Decoart Premium acrylic paints in Green Gold & Quinacridone Gold Hue. Shawn Petite stencils, Mediterranean 1 & Lace as well as doodle minis. Scrapbook paper by 7 gypsies. Golden Heavy Body acrylic in Titanium White. Liquitex Matte Medium and Liquitex Heavy Body Gel.

The creating of this journal spread was very meaningful. Often Art Journaling gives us an outlet for things that we are struggling with. Often what comes out on the page is not even what is expected. That is truly the beauty of it. I picked this rice paper from Stamperia because of the intent face of the girl. Sometimes, in life we have to put on our big girl panties and dig our heals in and persevere. But in that process, my hearts desire is to do that with grace, love but most of all with relationship in mind. Supplies used: Golden fluid acrylics in burnt umber light & colbalt turquoise. The rice paper is from ASC Designs by Stamperia. Shawn Petite stencil Fave Words 2.

This project was a stretch for me. As I allowed myself to be one with the process, I quite enjoyed it. Personally, I struggle with creating holiday themed art but I really wanted to push through that barrier and see it to the end. The holidays can be difficult for a number of reasons. Though I am surrounded with so much to be grateful for, there is a melancholy that also comes over me. I am so pleased that I persevered through this canvas! I gained peace and a sense of a particular closure as I did this. I loved the result. It was fairly time consuming as I painted the flowers and leaves. There were many challenges which I found myself sitting with and breathing through. I hope you enjoy the watching as much as I enjoyed the making. For me, Christmas must be about the joy, the peace and the love that it is marked by, so the focus of this canvas being “Peace” was very meaningful.
